The first time I met Embree was at one of my first ever hospital donations at UNC Children's Hospital after I started Headbands of Hope in college. I remember I asked her what she likes to do for fun and she replied, "I like doing cartwheels around my house and handstands up against the wall."
At that moment, I knew we'd get along 👯
Over the years, we kept in touch. We would always reconnect during the summer at Victory Junction Camp! ❤️
Unfortunately, last summer Embree relapsed. But you'd never know that with her amazing spirit and sense of humor. It was an easy decision to ask her to be my flower girl at my wedding this summer. She was the most beautiful flower girl ever (and had the best dance moves)! She even dabbed at the end of the aisle 😂
Unknowingly, on Sunday I went to take Embree to walk around the park so she could meet my new dog. It wasn't until the next day that her mom realized that it was 5 years ago exactly to the day we first met in the hospital.
Embree is one shining example of everything this business has brought to my life over the past five years. As hard as it can be starting a business from scratch (out of my dorm room!), it's people like her that remind myself that what we're doing is so meaningful.
And it's people like you that allow us to do that with your continued support.
