Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to shop Headbands of Hope and learn about our mission. That includes people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification, or other assistive technology.
Our goal
We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the most widely used set of guidelines for making websites usable by people with disabilities. We have not met every guideline yet. The known gaps are listed below.
What we have done
On October 22, 2026, our web team reviewed the new version of this website before it launched. The review covered the home page, a collection page, a product page, the cart, search results, the contact page, the blog, a blog post, and the "page not found" page, on desktop and mobile screen sizes. It included:
- Automated testing with axe-core and HTML_CodeSniffer.
- Color contrast measured after page animations finish.
- Keyboard-only use of the menu, search, cart, and product filters.
- Page zoom to 200% and screens as narrow as 320 pixels.
Automated tools find only some accessibility problems. This review did not include testing by people who use screen readers. It did not cover checkout or customer account pages, which Shopify hosts.
Known limitations
We know about these issues and are working to fix them.
- Contact form topic menu. The "Topic" menu on our contact form does not show its choices and is not labeled for screen readers. Until it is fixed, please email us instead (see below).
- Customer reviews. The reviews carousel on the home page comes from Yotpo, a third-party service. Its "Read More" link uses light text that is hard to read, and some review details may not be announced correctly by screen readers.
- Footer sign-up field. The email sign-up field in the footer uses placeholder text instead of a lasting label.
- Older content. Some older pages and blog posts have images without text descriptions or empty headings. Some product photos share the same description. We are also checking whether the short styling videos on product pages need captions.
- Third-party features. Some parts of this site come from other companies, including Yotpo (reviews), Klaviyo (email sign-up offers), and Smile.io (rewards). We do not control their code. The email sign-up offer can receive keyboard focus before the main page content, and the rewards button does not show a clear focus outline. We report problems like these to the companies that provide them.
- Checkout and accounts. Checkout and customer account pages are hosted by Shopify. We did not test them in this review.
